15-20 years ago, the majority of work class ROVs operated with main lift umbilicals containing a combination of coaxial cables and STWP(Shielded Twisted Pairs. The coaxial cables were used for transmission of analogue video from the vehicle to the surface,and the STWP where utilized for RS 422/485 or similar types of 2 way serial communication;used for vehicle control,manipulators,sonars and other sensors.
