Successful Implementation of Innova’s multiplexer for a Triton XLX Upgrade Package

Innova recently delivered a state-of-the-art ROVMux Triton XLX upgrade package to one of its key customers, significantly enhancing their remotely operated vehicle (ROV) control systems. This case study highlights the key features, implementation process, and the positive impact of the upgrade on the customer's operations.

The custom Triton XLX upgrade package was developed in close cooperation with our customers to replace legacy fiber-optic stacks in subsea and surface vehicle control systems. The design philosophy focused on reliability, ease of installation, and minimal wiring requirements. Key criteria included atmospheric mounting of electronics, emulation of legacy system connections, and the use of reliable and available subsea connectors.

All the fiber-optic boards used are standard components, stocked by Innova

The ROVMux Triton XLX upgrade package boasts several advanced features:

  • Retrofit for ROV Control Systems: Designed to seamlessly integrate with existing ROV control systems.
  • Custom Interface: Provides a user-friendly interface tailored to customer needs.
  • 3000 m Depth Rating: Ensures robust performance in deep-sea environments.
  • Topside Unit: The surface unit is a 19”, 3U rack unit that offers:
    • 9x Analog Video Channels: BNC connectors for high-quality video transmission.
    • Ethernet Connectivity: 2x 1Gb and 2x 100Mb Ethernet ports via RJ45 connectors.
    • Serial Communication: 2x RS485, 12x RS232, and 1 trigger channel accessible through D-sub connectors.
    • Diagnostics: Access to optical and temperature data for setup and troubleshooting via supplied software.
    • Power Management: Input power range of 88-264 VAC with fiber-optic interface.
  • Subsea Canister: The subsea canister includes:
    • Power Supply: Dedicated to powering electronics within the canister, ensuring isolation from external cables.
    • Signal Isolation: Individual isolation for serial lines and triggers, with galvanic isolation for Ethernet.
    • Mechanical Properties: Constructed from hard-anodized aluminum or titanium, with dimensions and weight optimized for subsea use.
    • Depth Rating: 3000 msw for aluminum and 5000 msw for titanium variants.
    • Additional Features: Noise attenuation filter, fiber and SFP diagnostics, and external water probe measurement.

The implementation of the Triton XLX upgrade package was seamless, requiring minimal wiring and leveraging pre-manufactured subsea cables. The customer reported significant improvements in system reliability, ease of maintenance, and overall operational efficiency. The upgrade enabled better diagnostics and troubleshooting capabilities, reducing downtime and enhancing the performance of their ROV operations.

Conclusion

Innova’s Triton XLX upgrade package has proven to be a valuable addition to the customer’s ROV control systems. The successful implementation underscores Innova’s commitment to
